Sean Catangui is a designer, developer and creative director. He currently works at The New York Times, producing award-winning interactive stories.
He also helps run Chinatown Basketball Club (CBC), a pickup basketball community and art collective.

Long form editorial about the targeted cultural destruction Ukraine. The project was a finalist for the Deadline Club’s award for online presentation. Designed and coded with Gabriel Gianordoli.

An interactive introduction conveying the scale and emotional weight of an investigation in Afghanistan, coded with WebGL to render images from the database in a scroll-based animation. Designed with Rumsey Taylor and Leo Dominguez.
Pulitzer Prize for Explanatory Reporting, 2024
Pitched and developed a quiz that pauses NBA highlights before the climax of offensive action to test how well readers can read an NBA defense. Written with Khris Rhim.

Researched, designed, and developed a story about the linguistic impacts of hip-hop. Designed and art directed in collaboration with Kate LaRue, Jacky Myint, and Antonio De Luca.
Gold Cube, Art Director’s Club, 2023
Designed a story explaining the global effects of the Tonga volcanic eruption, collaborating with Aatish Bhatia, who led development of the 3D simulation.
A gamified article to tell the rich visual history and design philosophy of The Legend of Zelda franchise. Designed and coded with Rumsey Taylor and Tala Safie.
